Please read the following information before applying to become an Invigilator: 

Prior to both January and Summer examination periods, invigilators are recruited to help support the smooth running of the examinations during these exam sessions. They are expected to be punctual, alert and assist in ensuring that the institution’s rules and regulations are adhered to during examinations. 

The examination start times are - 

January - 9.30, 14.00 and 18.30

Summer - 9.30, 13.30, 16.30 and 18.30

Autumn - 9.30, 14.00 and 18.30

The rate of pay for an invigilator is €12.70 per hour (with 8% holiday pay included). 

You will be paid for 30mins before the commencement of the exam and 15minutes after. You report to the Exams Office 30 minutes before the exam is due to commence.

Who is not eligible to work as an invigilator? 

  • Students currently enrolled in DBS, but past students will be considered

  • Full time DBS staff

What is required from the invigilator who intends to work with DBS? 

  • All Invigilators are required to attend a compulsory briefing session 

  • Closing date for applications for the Summer session is until quota is filled

  • Candidates must have PPS number in order to be paid

  • Non-EEA Nationals must be in possession of a valid Irish Residence Permit (IRP) that entitles you to work in Ireland for the entire exam period. This must be brought to the briefing session and a copy will be taken.

Where do the exams take place? 

Since March 2020, all exams have been hosted online.

Where exams are hosted on-site, the January exam sessions are held on DBS Campus, and the Summer exam sessions hold some exams at a designated examination center. Details will be provided to learners and invigilators as required.

What is a NEP student?

NEP (Need Extra Provision) Students are registered with Learner Support Officer (in the Student Services team). They receive additional exam supports. It can range from extra time to requiring a scribe or reader. These Exams will be located on the DBS Campus.  

What is required for a NEP Invigilation? 

  • Invigilators will be required to Scribe (write for the student) and or act as a Reader (read for the student) 

  • Manage their extra time

What hours will I be expected to work?

The exam session consists of a maximum of 4 exams scheduled per day running from 9.00am to 8.30pm. On your form you should only choose sessions that you are available for as invigilators will be assigned times based on the information provided.

What should I do if I need to cancel invigilation sessions assigned to me?

Invigilators has to get in touch with the Exams Office ([email protected]) by email at least 24hours prior to the examination.
