Get to know our International Students

On Wednesday 19thof October, our Student Union Members,Egidija (International Officer) and James, (PR Officers) interviewed a few of international students regarding their experience on living and studying in Dublin. Read a their stories and get to know the life they live away from home!
L-A, Business Student from Ohio, USA.
L-A is on a semester study with us and flew half-way across the globe to study in DBS. She is a student from NUand shares her story about studying here in Dublin. “The thing I like most about DBS is the layout of the different buildings and how they are so close. I also find it very cool that we are so central in Dublin.”

For L-A, Orientation week and Freshers week is what made her love DBS more.“I had good fun in the common room with my friends on freshers week. We loved the free Pizza!”

L-A also told us about what she enjoys doing in her spare time. L-A enjoys the night life here in Dublin, that there is a place to go, anywhere, anytime! “My friends really like to head to the Academy for a night out. My best friends in the college are Catie and Lauren.”

For L-A, the biggest difference between American and Irish people is that the Irish are more friendly and "loves to have long conversations.." For her that's what makes the Irish unique.
Brian (Cheng), Financial Services Student from South East China.
Cheng left South East China a month ago to join us here in DBS. He feels well settled to Irish life telling us about how he and his friends enjoy spending time in the pub after classes. “I am not very into alcohol but over here I really like Guinness. One time after class we were really cold and my friend bought some Jameson Irish Whiskey. It did not take very long for us to warm up!”

Cheng has become really involved with various aspects of our college. He is a a member of the Basketball team and the Photo Soc. “I went on the Photography trip to Dalkey. That is one thing that has really impressed me about studying here, it is very beautiful. It was nice to meet new people on the trip also.”
Another aspect of DBS that Cheng enjoys is spending time in the common room with his friends, John, Andy and Henry. They love the relaxed environment that we have in DBS and being able to network and make friends in the common room!

He was also impressed by the good nature of Irish people. “I’ve noticed that the Irish are very hospitiable and warm hearted, they are friendly on the street and I like that. Neighbours are very nice also, they help with tips of living in Dublin. I think Irish people really like dogs. My Landlord has 2 dogs.” But he also tells us that he misses having his family to make his dinners for him.
Asha, Addiction Student from Tmilnadu, India.
Asha, one of our Masters Students in DBS, spoke to us about the change of leaving her home of Tmilnadu in India and moving to Dublin. “I miss my parents. But Irish people are so friendly, I was surprised because people had told me that the Irish could be selfish. I find it to be the very opposite, they are very helpful. Bacon is not available in India and I was delighted to try it for the first time.”

In her spare time, Asha enjoys spending time with other Indian people that she knows here in Dublin. In that way she feels much closer to home.
Tamara, Study Abroad Student from Cologne,Germany.
We concluded our interviews with Tamara from Cologne. She is a study abroad student and enjoys socialising in our college.

She recalls the welcome party during induction week as one of the best events that we hosted so far. “I had a really good time at the Student party in Dtwo during orientation week. It was a really nice way to get to know the other people that are new to DBS.”

For Tamara, our freshers week is not one to be forgotten too! “There was really good fun in the common room that week. I was there with my friends Hang, Steffi and Vivian. The free Pizza was great! I was really glad I got to join the Business Society. They have some really great plans.”
