In a weekend that offered a thrilling display of skill, teamwork, and determination, the DBS Cricket Team has emerged triumphant as the Indoor Intervarsity Champions for 2024. The team's outstanding performance in this year's Championship has not only solidified their status as a cricketing powerhouses at third level, but has also brought immense pride to the entire DBS community.  

Facing stiff competition from other respective Universities, the DBS Cricket Teams (DBS 1 & 2), who were led by club captains Junaid Riaz and Zahid Safi, showcased unparalleled skill and strategic prowess throughout the tournament. After narrowly missing out on the Championship last year, the team were determined to come back and take course for silverware this time. The journey to the championship was marked by some intense matches, where each of our player's contributions and support played a crucial role in the team's success.

The DBS Cricket Team's journey to becoming Intervarsity Champions is a source of inspiration for students and sports enthusiasts alike. From precise bowling and masterful batting to exceptional fielding, the DBS Cricket Team demonstrated a commitment to excellence that resonated on and off the field. Their sportsmanship and dedication have not only earned them the much coveted title for 2024 but have also established this crop of students as role models for any future students looking to pursue the opportunity of competing in competitive cricket, while studying in Ireland. 

Acknowledging the significance of this achievement, Junaid Riaz stated, "We are incredibly proud of our Cricket Team and the lads for their outstanding performance in this year’s Intervarsity Championship. Everyone in the club worked incredibly hard ahead of this tournament. This started with our training sessions and every weekend. The spirits in the group have been high throughout this year’s campaign…. This victory is a testament to the team's hard work, resilience, and the unwavering support from the College staff and the entire DBS community. Congratulations to each member of the team on this well-deserved success."

The DBS Cricket Team will now look forward to the start of their preparations for the outdoor cricket season in June.
