Green campus week 2022 schedule

DBS Green Week 2022 is finally here at DBS and we have a great line up for you to enjoy. You can expect great events, fun competitions and plenty of inspiring talks to help you get excited about various environmental, sustainability and green concepts.
This year we are celebrating Green Week at the same time as other colleges all over Ireland and there will be shared activities from across the country.
Green Week Schedule:
Monday:
DBS Upcycle Challenge 2022 | The challenge is a competition to encourage students to rethink how waste is handled. We support you to limit and convert your waste into valuable reusable items and works of art. To enter this challenge, the student will make a piece of art or valuable item from things they would usually have thrown away. Take pictures documenting the procedure from waste pick up to making the item to the final product and what it is used for. WithRita Day &Donal Casey1-2PM(fully online) | A Presentation by the ‘DBS Green Campus Committee’.‘Green College’ is a presentation by Rita Day and Donal Casey, who are members of the DBS Green Campus Committee. The committee is part of the DBS Sustainable Environment Group, which was established back in early 2020. Since then there has been considerable progress in making DBS a greener and more sustainable college. Rita Day will talk about this.DBS has also begun the process of applying for a Green Campus award. We are working closely with An Taisce in order to fulfill all the requirements and, hopefully, make the final application in February 2023. Donal Casey will talk about this. | |

Moyee delivers FairChain partnerships to farmers. Killian is also a Lecturer in Business & Global Development. He will explain how he has used blockchain to help the world's poor for a more sustainable planet. | |

An interactive session on Zero Waste with Alex Konieczka, Environmental Youth Officer at ECO-UNESCO and Director at Understory. 6-7pm | Alex Konieczka is the Environmental Youth Officer with ECO-UNESCO, which is Ireland's Environmental Education and Youth Organisation. She is also the director of Understory, which is a zero-waste advocacy that helps businesses to protect nature by preventing waste, providing quality education and leading greening projects.Alex is a researcher and innovation analyst at Accenture, where she was the manager of a 12-month, award-winning sustainability programme which practiced the 17 UN sustainable development goals and encouraged self-reliance, knowledge sharing and zero-waste practices. | |
Wednesday:
Storytelling masterclasswithEddie Lenihan 5pm online - | Edmund Lenihan, is an Irish author, storyteller, lecturer and broadcaster. He is one of the few practicing seanchaithe remaining in Ireland. He has been called “one of the greatest of Irish story-tellers” and “a national treasurer”. He will inspire us with his stories of water monsters, folklore, and nature. | |
