World Dyslexia Day is an important occasion celebrated annually to raise awareness about dyslexia and the challenges faced by individuals with this learning difference.
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific learning difference that primarily affects reading, writing, and spelling abilities. It has no impact on intelligence but can make traditional learning methods more challenging. According to the Dyslexia Association of Ireland, approximately 10% of the population has dyslexia, making it one of the most common learning differences.

Take Breaks and Practice Self-Care:
Dyslexia is often considered a hidden disability because it is not immediately apparent to others. Individuals with dyslexia may face challenges with reading, writing, and spelling, but their difficulties are not visible in the same way as physical disabilities.

By wearing the sunflower lanyard, individuals with hidden disabilities can signal to staff or the general public that they may need help or that certain accommodations could be beneficial, without having to verbally explain their condition.
How DBS Supports Students with Hidden Disabilities
DBS Staff and students can request the Hidden Disabilities merchandise through the Disability and Inclusion Officer.
At DBS, we recognize that hidden disabilities, including dyslexia, can pose unique challenges. The Disability and Inclusion Office works with students to ensure they receive the appropriate accommodations

Together, We Make Learning Inclusive!
World Dyslexia Day is a time to reflect on the importance of inclusivity, and DBS remains dedicated to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed, no matter their learning difference.
