International students seeking deferral

International students seeking a deferral need to be aware of the following conditions:

  • Deferrals are for 1 academic year, after which a second deferral may be requested. No more than 2 deferrals will be approved.

  • Deferrals are subject to approval by the Academic Director subject to certain conditions.

  • Deferrals cannot be assumed until a student has the confirmation in writing.

  • Fees will be held in credit by DBS for the next academic year.

  • Should a student fail to return for any reason, including not having a visa for reentry, after an approved deferral, fees will be forfeited.

  • DBS notify Immigration of all student who elect to defer.

  • A deferral will effect the status of a student visa, as during a period of deferral the student is not studying fulltime, which is a condition of student visa.

  • Deferrals are requested via the Helpdesk

  • Further details can be found in our Quality Assurance Handbook, Part B, Section 4, page 18.
