Student visa renewal

Visa renewal is required for:

  • Undergraduate Students progressing to the next academic year

  • Students who do not complete the academic year as planned and within the original timelines of their programme (e.g. failed modules, deferred modules, repeats)

Students are required to begin the renewal process before their current IRP card expires. It does not need to be completed before the expiry date. Renewal time currently takes between 4-8 weeks. For up to date processing times check the immigration website

To renew your visa, students must:

  • Reside in Ireland and provide proof of address

  • Have a current IRP Card 

  • Provide proof they are enrolled on a course (letters can be requested through the Helpdesk

  • Proof of medical insurance from an Irish Provider

  • Students living in Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Cork or Limerick can renew their visa online with scanned documents. Online portal is available here

  • Students living outside these areas must renew their visa’s at their local Garda Station with the original documents.

Documents required:

  1. Passport 

  2. Current IRP card

  3. DBS Visa Extension Letter

  4. Exam results

  5. Fees receipts

  6. Medical Insurance 

  7. €300 to pay by debit/credit cards
