DBS Crowned Intervarsity Indoor Cricket Champions – Three in a Row

by Adam Crowther | Feb 10, 2026

Hi everyone,

We’re incredibly proud to share that DBS Cricket have been crowned Intervarsity Indoor Cricket Champions 2026, completing an extraordinary three-peat and securing the title for a record-breaking sixth time overall.

The team travelled to Ulster University, Belfast for the IUCA Indoor Tournament and delivered a flawless performance across the weekend. Friday saw dominant wins over UU1, UCD, and DU Ladies, highlighted by an astonishing 284 runs in 10 overs — the highest score ever recorded in the tournament’s history. No team had ever crossed 200 before. DBS didn’t just cross it — they obliterated it.

Saturday brought another commanding win against TUD, setting the stage for a dramatic finals day on Sunday. Victories over DCU (Quarter-Final) and UU1 (Semi-Final) led to a tense final showdown with TUD, where DBS held their nerve to seal the title. A composed 144-run total, led by Saad Javed (60*) and Lakshay Verma (47*), combined with crucial moments in the field — including a direct hit from Saad and key wickets from Jaagrat Srivastava and Lakshay Verma — secured the win.

Reflecting on the achievement, Captain Saad Javed said:

“Leading the DBS team to the IUCA National Championship was one of the most rewarding experiences of my cricketing life. This wasn’t just about winning — it was about teamwork, discipline, and believing in each other under pressure. This championship reflects our unity, hard work, and fighting spirit. Always Blue First.” 💙🏏

Individual honours followed an exceptional team effort:

  • Lakshay Verma – Best Batsman

  • Abdullah Umair – Best Bowler & Tournament MVP

  • Standout all-round performances from Saad Javed and Jaagrat Srivastava

Speaking after receiving the MVP award, Abdullah Umair added:

“I’m grateful to be part of such a strong team. This award belongs to all of us — everyone contributed, and I was just fortunate to be involved in a key moment.”

Special recognition must also go to Coach Junaid Riaz and former players who travelled to Belfast to support the squad — a true reflection of the culture, pride, and passion within DBS Cricket.

🏏 Records set this weekend:

  • Only team in history to win three titles in a row

  • Only team to reach six consecutive finals

  • Most titles ever won in IUCA Indoor Cricket history

  • Highest score ever recorded (284 runs)

Generations may pass before these records are touched.

Congratulations to the entire squad — a monumental achievement and a proud moment for DBS Sport.

Always Blue First.
