Update - Changes to Embassy Letter Requests

We are updating our processes regarding Embassy Letter requests.
Please note that the option to request a specific "Embassy Letter" has been removed from the helpdesk.
What this means for you
If you are a visa-required non-EEA national planning to travel outside of Ireland during your official student vacation periods, the College no longer issues bespoke embassy letters.
Instead, you must apply directly to the embassy or visa application center (such as VFS Global or TLScontact) of the country you intend to visit.
How to apply for your travel visa
1.Determine your main destination: Crucial for Schengen Visas.
If you are traveling to Europe (Schengen Area) and visiting multiple countries, you must apply directly to the embassy of the country where you will spend the most nights of your journey.
2.Download your General Reference Letter: Available on the student portal.
While the specific "Embassy Letter" option is gone, your General Reference Letter states your official status as a student at DBS and is designed to satisfy embassy requirements. You can generate and download this directly via the student portal.
3.Gather your supporting documents: Prepare well in advance.
Embassies will typically require your physical passport, your valid Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card (which must be valid for at least 3 months after your return), proof of funds (Irish bank statements), travel insurance, and your flight/accommodation bookings alongside your DBS letter.
4.Book your appointment early: Dublin centers book out fast.
Log onto the official visa portal for your destination country to fill out their application and secure a biometric appointment in Dublin. Slots fill up quickly ahead of summer and Christmas breaks, so plan ahead.
Important Reminder on Attendance & Travel:
Your Stamp 2 student visa requires strict, full-time course attendance. Unplanned or excessive travel outside of official university holiday dates can jeopardize your visa status and future renewals. Always ensure your IRP card is in-date before booking travel.
