Update: Changes to Visa Extension Letter Requests

by Adam Crowther | Jun 09, 2026

We are updating our processes regarding Visa Extension Letter requests to improve the speed and efficiency of getting your key documents.

Please note that the option to request a specific "Visa Extension Letter" has been removed from the helpdesk.

What this means for you

If you require documentation to apply for a visa extension with Irish Immigration (ISD), you no longer need to log a support ticket and wait for a manual letter to be drafted.

Instead, the key documents required by immigration are now fully automated and available instantly, removing unnecessary delays and helping you meet your renewal deadlines without the stress of waiting.

How to get your visa extension documents

1.Check your email for your Official Transcript: Sent automatically upon results release.

Your official academic transcript is automatically emailed to you by the Student Information System (SIS) as soon as exam results are officially ratified. This serves as your official, legal proof of the module(s) you need to repeat.

2.Download your General Reference Letter: Available on the student portal.

Log into the Student Self-Service Portal to instantly download your General Reference Letter. This standardized master letter confirms your status as a student at DBS, explains our academic structural policies, and outlines our fixed Exam Board periods (Winter/February, Summer/June, and Autumn/August).

3.Submit both documents directly to ISD: No manual intervention needed.

Present your automated official transcript alongside your General Reference Letter to your Immigration Officer. Together, these two automated documents give ISD exactly what they need: legal proof of your academic status and clear timelines for your next available exam board.

Important Reminder on Attendance & Compliance:

Your Stamp 2 student visa requires strict, full-time course attendance. Failing to maintain required attendance or engagement during active semester dates can jeopardize your immigration status and future visa renewals. Always ensure your documents are prepared well in advance of your immigration appointment.
